Wonderful pair of 18th century paintings incorporating the genre of still life with portraiture. Here the sitters are a sweet Blenheim (King Charles Cavalier) and a regal looking Persian Cat. Of good quality with wonderful depth and perspective in the manner of de Heem family of artists.

Paintings such as these are a reflection of the Dutch Golden Age of art which influenced many generations of artists that followed and represent a break with the old monarchist and Catholic cultural traditions. As a result the painting of religious subjects declining significantly which at the same time gave rise to a secular artistic tradition that produced beautiful parlour paintings such as these.
